SAFETY
FIRST – Be prepared for all potential
situations. There must be at least two deep leadership for all bike
excursions.

Mountain bikes are
permitted at CSR. Troops are responsible for all bikes brought to camp.
All bikes brought to camp are to have a lock and are to be locked when not
in use - including in your campsite.

CSR does have a
supply of mountain bikes that are available for use on a troop excursions.

All bikes brought
to Chesterfield must be in good working, mechanical order. Area director
or designee will do inspection. The BSA Cycling Merit Badge booklet should
be consulted before undertaking cycling outings.

Cyclists should
know basic first aid, how to clean and adjust the bike, how to repair a
flat, know all state and local cycling regulations, and know the bicycle
safety code..

Safety
equipment must be worn while riding mountain bikes.
Properly fitting helmets, sturdy footwear, and gloves are a must. Other
equipment is recommended, such as eyeglasses, shin guards, etc. Bikes must
be locked up when not in use.

Bikes are not
to be ridden in camp - Bikes will be walked on the campsite trails and
internal roads while camp is in session.
Bikes may be used to and from the wilderness campsite. They must be
secured when arriving at the main camp. NO riding after dark.

Camp trails on the
wilderness side are open to mountain bikes. Watch for hazards.

There are many
unimproved dirt town roads in the area. A local map of these roads is
available at the office. Follow highway regulations, stay to the right,
ride with traffic, and travel single file only. Troops going on bike
excursions must file a trip plan with the Program Director prior to
leaving, giving names of Scouts going, leaders, time of departure, time of
expected return.

There are outpost
locations available where the troop can camp out overnight. See the
Program Director for assistance.

Report all
incidents or accidents to the Camp Director or the Health Officer
immediately upon return to camp.

Bikes are
not to be left unattended unless they are locked
up and secured, including in the campsite.

CSR is not
responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged bicycles or accessories, etc.
